Nervous and tense, the Italian football team must renounce to the dream of the gold medal at Lignano 2005, that instead goes to Georgia, that won with merit. Italy at the beginning is very active: Rocca lines up Pasquato since the beginning and the match becomes very aggressive. At 5’ shot of  Piccolo that goes out and at 8’ Pasquato tries again but Tevporadze gains control of the ball. Georgia counteracts with the very fast Tsinampzghvrishvili, but captain Pambianchi prevails in the tackle. There is also a chance for Bzahalava at 12’, first shot cleared by the Italian defence and on the bounce back Bzahalava tries to score again, but Delfino stops him. A strong shot of Piccolo, at 14’, risks to become a great peril for the Georgian defense: Tevdoradze is in difficulty but then the defense manages to clear. Georgia gains the lead at 34’: Tsinampzghvrishvili wins a bounce back against the Italian captain Pambianchi and running on the right kicks a powerful ball that Delfino cannot stop. A minute later D’Ambrosio offers to Piccolo a perfect cross that could mean draw, but the Italian forwarder hesitates too much leaving the action unfruitful. In the beginning of the second half of the match Georgia is almost impenetrable, but at 5’ Pasquato kicks a shot that goes out by a little. Italy tries to draw at 16’: free kick of  Pasquato, Mei gives a head shot and, after the clearance of the goalkeeper, Loiodice kicks a strong ball that puts the Georgian goalkeeper  in peril, but he saves the ball wonderfully. Georgia is not satisfied and seeks to double at 17’: diagonal shot of Tsinampzghvrishvili but the ball is out. In the meantime Rocca changes almost all the players: Palumbo and Piccolo out and Barillà and Marconi in, but Georgia counter-attacks, leaving all Italian actions unfruitful. Rocca changes all the players he can, even the goalkeeper Andrea Menegon, but there is not much to do: at 31’ Tsinampzghvrishvili enters the area, dribbles some of the adversaries and gives the ball to Janelidze that can do nothing but score a goal. D’Ambrosio at 37’ seeks to score, but Tevdoradze stops the ball. The latest initiatives of Italy are unsuccessful: Georgia wins the gold medal.
In the final to award the third place Ireland wins against Switzerland 4-2. The goals: in the first half at 14’ Donnes (Ireland) and at 38’ Frei (Switzerland); in the second half at 10’Sullivan (Ireland), at 17’ Rooney (Ireland), at 31’ Avanzini (Switzerland) and final score at 35’ of Rooney.
In the final for the 5./6. place Finland wins against Latvia, 7-5 after the penalty kicks.
