THE NUMBERS OF LIGNANO 2005
The big numbers of the European Youth Olympic Festival 2005. Yesterday evening, with the closing ceremony, the baton has been handed to Belgrade 2007.
KOZLOWSKY: “LIGNANO 2005 HAS BEEN A GREAT SUCCESS”
With these words, Alexander Kozlowsky, vice president of the European Olympic Committee, has officially declared the EYOF closed.
CLOSING CEREMONY, DANCING ON THE BEACH
After the official programme, the choreography of the closing ceremony is based on the “taccuino di viaggio” (travel memories), images and dance to leave an unforgettable memory to all participants and spectators of Lignano 2005
MORE THAN 4,000 PEOPLE AT THE CLOSING CEREMONY
The silence speaks for itself at the closing ceremony of the eighth edition of the European Youth Olympic Festival in Lignano. A minute of silence for the victims of the attacks in London and then the ceremony begins in a “Beach Arena” full of people. The vice president of the Organizing Committee Bertossi: “I thank all the young that gave to Lignano and to tho whole Friuli Venezia Giulia enthusiasm and joy, fair play and reliability”
AWARDED THE FAIR PLAY PRIZES OF LIGNANO 2005
The Croatian tennis player Deni Zmak and the German athletics team win the Fair Play awards of this edition of the European Youth Olympic Festival.

Italy has never won so many medals in an EYOF edition
SWIMMING: LIGNANO 2005 SHAPES THE OLYMPIC TALENTS OF THE FUTURE
According to the experts, at least ten athletes, who took part in Lignano 2005, are destined for a wonderful career. Among these there are also two Italians: the breaststroke swimmer from Verona Luca Pizzini and the backstroke swimmer of Aniene Roma Damiano Lestingi.
SWIMMING: THE GOLD RELAY SWIMMERS, “SEE YOU IN BEIJING 2008”
The Italian swimmers of the 4x100 men relay (Lestingi, Pizzini, D’Alema e Santucci), promise: “we will be in Beijing 2008 and in London 2012, all together, to win”. The drive of Sciocchetti: “The British Unwin is unbeatable? Just for the time being…”
SWIMMING: ITALY WINS THE LAST CONTEST
Italy wins the 4x100 medley relay. After winning the 200m on Monday, the backstroke swimmer Lestingi wins also the 100m. Third podium for Cinzia Sciocchetti (800m freestyle). Important bronze medal for Barbacini in the 200m freestyle.
SWIMMING: LIZ SIMMONDS, FIVE GOLDS THINKING AT THE OLYMPIC GAMES
The 14-year-old imposed herself winning five gold medals in four days of competition: “a very useful experience looking to the Olympic Games”.
TENNIS: BELARUS HAS DOMINATED THE COMPETITIONS
The Belarusian athletes have won the gold medal in the singulars and in the medley double.
ATHLETICS: ONE WAY FROM LIGNANO TO BEIJING
According to the words of the sport operators, a lot of athletes who have taken part in Lignano 2005 will probably be also in the next Olympic Games in China.
BASKETBALL: GOLD FOR SPAIN
Spain-Germany 67-61: the strong Spain meets the expectations of the day before and wins the gold over Germany, which was able to tackle the Spanish team until the last two minutes
VOLLEYBALL: ITALY WINS THE GOLD MEDAL
Italy-Croatia 3-2. Great victory of the Italvolley team against the Croatia, that wins at the tie break 15-10. Viola Cecioni the best player of the tournament
FOOTBALL: SUCCESS FOR GEORGIA, SILVER FOR ITALY
Italy-Georgia 0-2: Georgia beats Italy and wins the gold medal at Lignano 2005. Italy has to console itsself with the silver medal and a series of high level performances that however left the supporters in the stadium of Latisana satisfied
HANDBALL: RUSSIA WINS THE GOLD
As it has already beenforetold, the Russian selection wins the title of the handball tournament, defeating Norway with the score of 23-19...
SWIMMING: THIRD BRONZE FOR SCIOCCHETTI
Cinzia Sciocchetti from Pordenone wins the bronze medal in the 800m crawl. It is the third bronze medal in Lignano 2005 for the Italian swimmer. Gold to the British Unwin, silver to the Hungarian Fanni Szeder.
GYMNASTICS: VANESSA FERRARI WINS THE SECOND GOLD IN LIGNANO 2005
Female gymnastics competitions have ended at the indoor stadium of Latisana with the second gold medal for Ferrari, who had access to the floor exercises final. The Triestine Federica Macrì ended at the fifth place the same competition

Third gold in athletics for Italy: Matteo Galvan has won the 200m in Lignano 2005
GE.TUR. OPENS UP THE DOOR TO FUTURE SPORT MEETINGS
Father Luigi Fabbro, President of the Friulian association for assistance (Efa) controlling Ge.Tur., and Emilio Felluga, President of the regional INOC and Executive President of the Organizing Committee of EYOF 2005 uswell, have met the chefs de mission of the Nations taking part in Lignano 2005, inviting them to organize in the future other sport meetings and work experiences inside the village in the future.
BASKETBALL: BRONZE TO LITHUANIA, ITALY IS FOURTH
Lithuania-Italy 73-66: the bronze goes to the young boys coming from the Baltic, Italy is fourth, but one of the best teams among those that took part in the EYOF

The uneven bars titles, the second of the four titles of the day, has been awarded at the indoor stadium of Latisana. Gold for Myasnikova from Russia, third place for the athlete from Brescia
THE PRESIDENT OF THE CHAMBER OF ITALY GIVES HIS REGARDS TO LIGNANO 2005
Pier Ferdinando Casini adresses to organizers and participants his "warmest wish to everybody taking part in the competitions - and particularly to the athletes of the British team, who receive in this moment the friendship and the solidarity of the Italian people".

GYMNASTICS: LIA PAROLARI "ALTRUIST" FOR THE SAKE OF THE NATIONAL TEAM
Lia Parolari, fifteen years old, has decided not to compete in the floor exercises final leaving her place to the teammate Vanessa Ferrari, gold medallist yesterday in the all-round competition. Ferrari can then try to win four more medals in the individual competitions.
